AERE Seeks Candidates for Editorial Position

AERE’s official research journal, the Journal of the Association of Environmental and Resource Economists (JAERE), will have an open editorial position starting January 1, 2022. JAERE has a team of four editors (currently Jennifer Alix-Garcia, Shanjun Li, Sheila Olmstead, and Christian Vossler), and Jennifer will be stepping down at the end of this year. Duties for each member of the team include assigning all incoming submissions to editors and co-editors approximately three months per year, handling 30 to 40 submissions per year (finding referees, obtaining reports and making decisions about papers’ final dispensation), working with our excellent group of co-editors, and interacting with the AERE Board and the University of Chicago Press on behalf of JAERE. The expected term length is four years.

The AERE Board invites AERE members interested in joining JAERE’s team of editors to submit a statement of interest to AERE President Karen Palmer by September 1, 2021. We welcome nominations of potentially-interested AERE members, in addition to self-nominations. A new editor will be selected by October 31, 2021.

Regional Meeting Updates

  • [email protected]:AERE and AAEA's Land, Water and Environmental Economics Section co-sponsored four sessions at the AAEA Annual Meeting held August 1-3 at the JW Marriott, Austin, Texas. Three out of the four sessions had a hybrid format with in-person and virtual speakers/audience. The fourth session was entirely virtual. The talks were excellent and were very well received by an engaged audience, both in the room and virtually.
  • [email protected]: Due to the uncertainty surrounding the 2022 Eastern Economic Association Conference, abstract submissions have been postponed.
  • [email protected]Due to the uncertainty surrounding the 2022 Midwest Economics Association Conference, abstract submissions have been postponed.
  • [email protected]: AERE is sponsoring 17 sessions at the Southern Economic Association's 91st Annual Meeting November 20–22, 2021, at the Marriott Marquis, Houston, Texas, including a keynote address by Dan Phaneuf (University of Wisconsin-Madison), AERE Immediate Past President. AERE thanks John Whitehead (Appalachian State University) and his committee for organizing those sessions.
  • [email protected]: AERE sponsored 22 sessions at the Western Economic Association International's 96th Annual Conference held online June 27 - July 1, 2021. Although sessions were not as well attended as hoped, going virtual allowed more than the usual amount of international participation. Thank you to conference organizer Trudy Ann Cameron for going above and beyond by compiling an inventory of papers, slides, and discussion comments as a benefit for those who registered for the conference.
