AERE@OSWEET: Online Forum
Friday, October 27, 2023, 2:00 PM - 3:30 PM EDT
Category: AERE Miscellaneous

AERE@OSWEET is a supportive and constructive online forum where scholars—particularly graduate students, postdocs, early-career assistant professors, and scholars who identify as part of groups underrepresented in economics—share environmental and natural resource economics work. Each OSWEET takes place on a Friday from 2:00 - 3:30 p.m. ET online via Zoom. Talks are short and sweet—three papers per session, with 14–minute presentations plus 5 minutes of friendly Q&A (no discussants), followed by an optional happy half-hour. Papers will not be circulated, and recording of any kind is not allowed.

This session features three terrific talks on air pollution:

  1. Erin Litzow (UBC): Toxic Recycling: Used lead-acid battery processing's negative effect on test scores in Mexico
  2. Ngyuen Vuong (Wisconsin): The persistent health effect of defoliating Vietnam
  3. Hui Zhou (Rhode Island): Restricting trade for the environment? Evidence from import restrictions on used vehicles in China

Register for the Zoom link here:https://cornell.zoom.us/meeting/register/tJAtf-6rqzMsEt2I_RB-gXRMpCPTs6qoxNO5 or sign up for the mailing list to receive invitations to sessions here. NOTE: If you were previously on the OSWEET mailing list, you don’t need to sign up again; you will stay on the list unless you opt to exit it! But you are welcome to submit new work even if you presented at OSWEET in the past.

OSWEET was founded as the Online Summer Workshop in Environmental, Energy, and Transportation economics in summer 2020. In 2022, AERE (the Association of Environmental and Resource Economists) took over sponsorship of OSWEET; OSWEET became AERE@OSWEET. The organizers are Ed Rubin, Katherine Wagner, Sarah Jacobson, Max Auffhammer, and Ariel Ortiz-Bobea.
