CommitteesAt AERE, we understand the importance of volunteers. Volunteers are AERE's most precious resource, lending their time and expertise to help the association, and the profession, advance. AERE has volunteer opportunities to suit every interest and availability level, including service on the Board of Directors. As we look forward to future initiatives, we hope you will consider being part of our volunteer community. You can complete a volunteer application at any time; however, most volunteer positions are filled in the spring (April, May, and June) each year. Executive CommitteeResponsible for providing organizational leadership between Board meetings, ensuring that decisions align with AERE's mission and policies. Advises the President, addresses urgent matters requiring timely action, and considers complaints related to diversity, equity, and inclusion in accordance with AERE's policies.
Nominating CommitteeResponsible for assembling a slate of candidates to stand for election as officers and board members and for filling some open committee slots.
Membership CommitteeResponsible for providing oversight and coordination of membership recruitment, retention, and provision of activities.
Community Engagement Working GroupResponsible for facilitating a collaborative professional environment to engage the AERE community, fostering open discussions, and supporting a positive climate within the organization and its events.
Graduate Student Engagement Working GroupResponsible for initiatives that further graduate student engagement.
Communications CommitteeResponsible for developing communication strategies and providing guidance on AERE communications.
Career Development CommitteeResponsible for overseeing AERE's career and professional development efforts, carried out through the Mentoring, Scholars Program, and Teaching & Pedagogy working groups.
Mentoring Working GroupResponsible for expanding access to mentoring across the broader AERE membership through a lighter-touch model, connecting members with mentors for career guidance and networking support at greater scale.
Scholars Program Working GroupResponsible for providing a select cohort of early-career environmental and natural resource economists with an intensive, high-touch mentoring experience, including career guidance and networking opportunities.
Teaching & Pedagogy Working GroupResponsible for improving the quality of education in environmental and natural resource economics.
Best JAERE Paper Award CommitteeResponsible for selecting the winner of the Best JAERE Award annually.
Oates Dissertation Award CommitteeResponsible for selecting the annual winner of the Oates Dissertation Award.
