Fall Virtual Workshop

The AERE Fall Virtual Workshop is an annual event featuring online sessions on timely topics in environmental and resource economics. Workshops are open to professionals and students and are designed to encourage learning, discussion, and community engagement. They are typically held virtually over one to two days in September or October.

AERE 2026 Fall Virtual Workshop: Teaching Climate Economics and AI

AERE's Teaching & Pedagogy Working Group invites you to the AERE 2026 Fall Virtual Workshop, November 9 and 10, from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. U.S. Eastern Time each day. Monday focuses on teaching climate economics in today's world, considering both how to integrate modern science and policy into the classroom and how the current political and policy moment may affect our teaching, with a keynote by Gernot Wagner, panels, and demonstrations. Tuesday turns to AI in our teaching, covering its social and environmental implications and how teachers and students can use it productively, and closes with a keynote by Scott Cunningham.

Monday, November 9: Climate Day

Call for Proposals

AERE invites proposals to organize its annual Fall Virtual Workshop. The workshop is a forum for timely, policy-relevant, and methodologically innovative discussions in environmental and resource economics, and it engages a broad audience of researchers, practitioners, and students. Past workshops have addressed emerging research frontiers, methodological advances, and connections between economic research and policy.

Topics and Formats

AERE welcomes proposals on any topic related to environmental or resource economics that would interest the broader community. Proposals may emphasize foundational skills, emerging research areas, or pressing policy issues. Workshops may be structured in a variety of formats, including:

  • Mini-courses
  • Panel discussions
  • Research-focused sessions
  • Highly interactive or discussion-based formats

How to Submit

Please email proposals to [email protected] and include:

  • Proposed workshop title
  • Brief description of the topic and objectives
  • Proposed format and anticipated duration (one to two days)
  • Names and affiliations of proposed organizers and participants, as applicable
