Annual Summer Conference
Washington, D.C. • May 29 - 31, 2024The AERE 2024 Summer Conference in Washington, D.C., was an incredible success, marking another milestone for our organization. With 570 registered attendees, this Conference was our largest gathering yet! AERE extends its heartfelt gratitude to the EPA's National Center for Environmental Economics (NCEE) for acting as the Conference Organizing Committee, specifically Alex Marten, Bryan Parthum, Elise Breshears, Will Wheeler, and, of course, Al McGartland, along with countless others behind the scenes. The Conference program was truly exceptional, offering a diverse array of 83 concurrent sessions and featuring a total of 325 research paper presentations. Highlights included the plenary session on "America's Trillion Dollar Climate Investment," moderated by Joseph Aldy (Harvard Kennedy School), with panelists Karen Palmer (Resources for the Future), Arik Levinson (Georgetown University and U.S. Department of the Treasury), Lori Bennear (Duke University), and Nat Keohane (Center for Climate and Energy Solutions). The Conference featured a wide range of topics, including energy, climate change and policy, pollution and environmental quality, natural resource management, economic analysis and methodology, and health and human impacts. Each session was thoughtfully curated to provide in-depth insights into the pressing environmental and resource economics issues of our time. Special thanks to the abstract reviewers whose efforts ensured a high-quality program. The variety and depth of the sessions underscored the conference's commitment to advancing research and fostering meaningful discussions within our field. Resources Radio, a weekly podcast from Resources for the Future that features interviews with researchers and leading experts about climate change, energy, ecosystems, and more, recorded four episodes at the AERE 2024 Summer Conference.
